Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to hotel. Early evening having a talk with Professor Le Van Lan an acknowledged raconteur and authority on Vietnamese culture. Overnight in Ha Noi

A morning city tour of Vietnam's capital city, led by Joe, a leading art historian. Visit the Fine Arts Museum, the Temple of Literature, the Lake of the Restored Sword and the bustling streets of the Old Quarter. In the afternoon visit the Mai Gallery, which exhibits paintings of up and coming local artists, and the studio of Nghiem Xuan Hung who specialises in oil paint and lacquer. Also visit the studios of wood engraver, Tran Khanh Chuong and Dinh Quan. Visit the Truong Chinh water puppet theatre and workshop. show.Overnight in Ha Noi

Hoa Lu - Tam Coc Caves - Sampan trip
A day trip to Hoa Lu and Tam Coc Caves, often referred to as 'Dry Halong Bay'. Take a small sampan, rowed by a local guide, through flooded rice fields. In the evening meeting Master of Kungfu Bang Son, with special programme of kungfu displayed by him and his disciple.

Hue - Emperor Tomb - Royal Banquet Transfer to the airport for the short morning flight to Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam. Transfer to hotel. In the afternoon visit the Imperial Citadel from which the Nguyen Emperors once ruled Vietnam, and the elaborate mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc. In the evening take part in a Royal Banquet at the Mandarin Palace within the Citadel enclosure.

Hue - Boat Trip - Danang After breakfast travel by boat on the romantically named Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda, which stands on the riverbank with a seven-storey tower. Visit Diem Phung Thi's house, where her famous sculpture works are displayed. (An optional talk with her is subject to her availability). After lunch leave Hue by road for Danang, passing over the dramatic Pass of Mountain Clouds. Once over the mountain pass the road drops down to Danang. Stop off at Danang to visit the Cham Museum. Arrive in historic Hoi An late afternoon.

Hoi An - Sightseeing - Boat Trip
A morning walking tour of the ancient town centre takes in former merchants' houses, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market. An afternoon boat trip on the Thu Bon River visits a boat building village and a village where ceramics are produced.

Danang - Ho Chi Minh City - Sightseeing
Fly to Saigon. Check in hotel. After lunch a city tour of dynamic Saigon, officially renamed Ho Chi Minh City after 1975, takes in the former Presidential Palace, the Old Saigon Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral and Dong Khoi Street.

A morning visit to a lacquerware factory, art galleries and studios. Afternoon is free for more discovery of the city or for last minute shopping activities.
